The Boys of Summer

Went to the Nat’s game yesterday, enjoyed the first win of the season. We debated leaving in the 8th, when they were down 6-2 but like that magical team from the first season, this years crop has no idea when to give up. After dropping the first two games, 9-2 and 9-3, they pulled out a very respectable 7-6 win. They lost 4-3 tonight to the Diamondbacks, but thats ok, at least they were in it again. We’ll pull this ship together, but we really do need some pitching.

Anyway, if I win the lottery and don’t have to work, I’m taking my kids with me on a tour of all 30 baseball parks …plus the field of dreams.

Anyway, here’s a good baseball lyric. I hate Don Henley, but always liked this song.

Nobody on the road
Nobody on the beach
I feel it in the air
The summer’s out of reach
Empty lake, empty streets
The sun goes down alone
I’m drivin’ by your house
Though I know you’re not at home

But I can see you-
Your brown skin shinin’ in the sun
You got your hair combed back and your sunglasses on, baby
And I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

I never will forget those nights
I wonder if it was a dream
Remember how you made me crazy?
Remember how I made you scream
Now I don’t understand what happened to our love
But babe, I’m gonna get you back
I’m gonna show you what I’m made of

I can see you-
Your brown skin shinin’ in the sun
I see you walkin’ real slow and you’re smilin’ at everyone
I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

Out on the road today, I saw a DEADHEAD sticker on a Cadillac
A little voice Inside my head said, “Don’t look back. You can never look back.”
I thought I knew what love was
What did I know?
Those days are gone forever
I should just let them go but-

I can see you-
Your brown skin shinin’ in the sun
You got that top pulled down and that radio on, baby
And I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

I can see you-
Your brown skin shinin’ in the sun
You got that hair slicked back and those Wayfarers on, baby
I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

Play Ball!

“It didn’t start the way we wanted,” Acta said.

And with that understatement, the Washington Nationals started their final season at Washington’s RFK Stadium (long ago home to both the Redskins, the HFStival and a host of stellar Dead Shows) in a 9-2 free fall.

“Not much went right today,” Patterson said. “Had a couple injuries. I didn’t pitch well. There wasn’t a lot of positives that came out of today’s game.”

Yep. But I don’t care. Count this lifelong Yankee fan as a proud Nats fan (on my 3rd year as a season ticket holder) too.

As they say, there’s no where to go but up, but at least my tickets are on the lower level right behind home plate.
