New Orleans Bleg

All,

Gonna be traveling down to New Orleans January 27, 28, and 29th. Will be staying in the French Quarter for a meeting with EPA

Couple of questions –

First, are there any restrictions in Louisiana on carrying that I need to be aware of? Can I carry in restuarants? I know I can’t carry in the federal building, though the meeting is in my hotel (I won’t carry to the meeting itself, but when I leave the hotel to explore I’d like to be able to carry).

Any good ranges and/or fun things to do there?

Where can I go nutria hunting? Anything else in season?

  2. There are, i believe, 32 states with reciprocity with Louisiana. You must inform LEO when carrying during a traffic stop, and i don’t believe they have restaurant carry.

That being said, i personally, would not go prowling ‘The Quarter’ or anywhere else in the city unarmed … trust me on that.

You can probably find some more in depth answers to your questions here >>> Handgunlaw dot us

I used to shoot at the The Shooters Club on David Dr. out by the airport, but i believe they’ve finally moved to the new range on Hickory Dr. It would seem that Katrina had delayed the move when we were there for the cleanup effort …

To get there from the quarter just head west thru town till you find Earhart Blvd, and head west towards the airport . It will turn into an expressway taking you to the Elmwood/Harahan area. At the end of the expressway go left and then a couple of right turns should have you at the front door. You can find a map link through their website.

For what it’s worth, Louisiana is an open carry state …

    Enjoy your trip !

  3. I always carry in NOLA!! Everywhere. Carry officially “not allowed” in restaurants or bars. A town of under 300k and 171 murders in 2009, not to mention the other crime. #1 on the FBI hit parade. Choose something that really “conceals.” Your choice may very well be legal or dead.

And do NOT miss the red beans & rice at the Chartres House just off Jackson Square, the best EVAH!

  4. Check that your state has reciprocity with Louisiana for concealed carry. You cannot carry concealed in a bar but restaurants are acceptable.

Gretna Gun Works has a range.

I don’t know of any nutria hunting guides unless you know a local with a boat and he takes you into the marsh.
