I Hate My iPhone
Well, actually, I love it. I hate AT&T.
Here’s why.
Tonight, in front of McLean High School, in McLean, VA – an inner suburb of Washington, D.C. and home to more politicians than you can throw a stick at – I saw a pickup truck hit a bicyclist and run over him. I stopped to help and tried to call 911.
Call Fail.
I tried again.
waiting waiting waiting. Call failed
And again.
It happened 5 times before someone else was able to make the call.
Have I said AT&T sucks yet????

What version of the OS are you running? I had similar problems with the move to v3.1, but 3.1.2 seems to have fixed them for me. I would have to reboot the phone for it to start making and accepting calls again.

Not sure. I have a 3Gs. Have had it for about a month.
Didn’t need to be rebooted. It worked fine 5 minutes later.
Its just that the AT&T network seems to suck when I absolutely need to use it. Sort of like my Dell Laptop.
99% of the time it runs fine, but when there is an emergency that demands immediate action – it goes kaput and requires me to spend 40 minutes in a holding pattern.

Every network sucks, and every network will have a busy or broken tower now and then.
I’ve had call failures at various times in various places on every network I’ve been on.

File a ticket with ATT – they have to make a serious effort to resolve a 911 issue or the feds get up their butts.

That having been said – most likely cause was insufficient network resources because of everyone else attempting 911. I don’t know enough about how GSM networks deal with overload to be able to say more.
Nonetheless – they should be made aware of the issue. It might be something they can fix.

Welcome to Attempting To Talk…
Love my iPhone not so sure about AT&T. But I vowed never again on Verizon due to extremely poor customer service.

im on my 8th or 9th iphone.. its been almost a year and a half now. some work better than others, only 2 have lasted longer than 90 days. AT&T hit my account for 3 times the normal monthly bill this time around. … not at all apologetic about absorbing my xmas & grocery budget .. they tell me it will all work out even by march. its a coin flip as to which company i’d rather burn down at the moment.
