Young lady (yl): Hello, can I talk to you about the ACLU?

Me: ACLU? They supporting the constitution yet?

YL: everyday. We support the constiution.

Me: Not the second Amendment you don’t.

Yl: well, that’s a state by state issue

Me: isn’t the constitution the supreme law of the land? Are you telling me my right to free speach is different in one state than another?

Yl: no. Just the 2nd amendment. Our policy varies state by state

Me: (staring dumbfounded) it does? I thought you supported the constitution

Yl: (realizing where this is going) well, no ones perfect. But what about the rest of the constitution?

Me: I support the whole thing. And my guns keep you from infringing on my speach

Its coming. And I’ve got some cash burnign a hole in my pocket. I was thinking I might get a handgun, then thought – with black rifle prices HIGH and hunting prices LOW – I might look at getting a Fox or Parker or LC Smith side by side.

But then, I thought maybe a SIG 556.

Well, I was out and about again tonight.

As you’ll recall, the last time I was out I ran into Senator AIG himself, Chris Dodd.

Well, after spending an interesting hour with Ed Markey of Massachuessets talking Climate Change I headed over to a Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee fundraiser at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. And as I was finishing up a conversation with Sen. Mark Warner (yes, Steve, I know – but he’s pretty good to my clients) who should start to walk up to the Senator . . . . why Senator AIG himself (Incidentally, this was about 7:50 pm, right before the Chosen One went on the air, at which time my group of friends headed down the street to Bobby Van’s for some flesh).

Anyway, I had another opportunity to trip him and once again am kicking myself for failing to take advantage of the opportunity.

It’s been awhile since we spent a Monday Morning listening to the Dead and talking guns, but this picture I stumbled upon motivated me to find a tune worthy of posting.

Valencia Mohammed, the director of Mothers of Unsolved Murders, a D.C. advocacy group for mothers of homicide victims

She is speaking about the D.C. Voting Bill which looks likely to come up for a vote – with the language repealing the District of Columbia’s gun control laws intact – before Congress breaks for Easter recess.

Oh yeah, she has also lost two kids to gun/gang violence in Washington, D.C.

“This is one of the inalienable rights that I wanted,” she said. “I want my vote to be counted. I want representation in Congress. And I also want the right to bear arms.

“I’m just looking at the history of my ancestors and what they went through and how they were shot and killed, tarred and feathered and burned to death,” she said. “Guns was one of those things that they could not have and a tool for other people that kept them enslaved. I’m saying no more of that. I want to enjoy all of those rights that they were denied. . . . It’s time.”

I have sent her an email and have offered to buy her lunch at the downtown restaurant of her choice.

I had lunch at Charlie Palmers Steak house today. Saw Chris Dodd there, sitting with random executives (couldn’t tell if one was the AIG CEO). Oooo.

They walked right past me, I was tempted to trip him (should have, could have, but didn’t).

Hard to believe this is coming from Marc Fisher, the liberal, generally anti gun metro columnist for the Washington Post.

The District set itself up for this last summer. Having been smacked around by the U.S. Supreme Court, which ruled the city’s handgun ban unconstitutional, the council and mayor shot back with preposterously restrictive gun control rules — essentially, a dare to the feds: Okay, we’ll legalize gun ownership, but just try to leap over our new hurdles. Go ahead, try — we’ll sit back and laugh.
