  1. Down by the wharf on the far side of Pier 45 the USS Pampanito is moored - in case you want to check out (hours/directions) a WWII Balao class Fleet submarine circa 1945…
    I think it’s one of the more cool things to do in a one-party anti-war socialist city-state.

  2. I stayed at the Hilton when the earthquake hit in 1989. It was a big telecom convention - as you’re a DC guy - US Telecom. I was on the 18th floor, ready to watch the world series and the whole room started shaking and then swaying. I thought it was the big one. My wife was on a cable car coming down Powell St. when it started rocking and derailed. It was at least an hour of worry before we connected at AT&T’s hospitality suite. The things you remember…

  3. Flasman - whoa! It was The Pretty-Big one, and a reminder that things aren’t as they seem. I was at a Safeway down the peninsula watching cars in the parking lot do the hula dance.
